Dr. Napatia M. Tronshaw is a native of Chicago and was raised on the south side of the city. Chicago is her home and she is dedicated to the deliverance of optimal healthcare and service within this large metropolitan area. Her medical career began at a very young age as a certified nursing assistant at Misericordia nursing home. For several years she provided nursing care for children with profound developmental delay. Working with children has always given her a great sense of commitment and fulfillment. During her pursuit of higher education she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from The University of Chicago in 2003. Later, she earned a Doctorate of Medicine from The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 2007. During her medical school education she made the decision to pursue professional training in the field of Psychiatry. With that goal in mind, she transitioned to the University of Illinois at Chicago and began psychiatric residency training in the summer of 2007.
Training at the University of Illinois has provided Dr. Tronshaw with the clinical knowledge and professional skills to diagnose and treat a wide array of neurological and psychiatric illnesses. Following her adult training, she pursued a child and adolescent psychiatric fellowship at the UIC Institute of Juvenile Research. It is her strong belief that the prevention of many psychiatric diagnoses and early intervention substantially increase the likelihood of a child and their family enjoying a healthy and productive future. For this reason she has chosen to dedicate her career to the mental health care of children and families.
Dr. Tronshaw’s additional interests include juvenile justice, policy, the intersection between educational disabilities and mental health treatment, and state level advocacy. She is currently an active member of The American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the National Medical Association. She holds double board certifications by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She is also the proud mother of three sons and a daughter.
